Not happy with the service. The appointment was delayed over an hour and it was rushed

This was my third visit to Heading Out Balwyn and my first bad experience. To start with, my regular stylist was on leave and I was not notified prior to my visit or given the option to postpone my appointment. This was my first colour with Heading Out (previously only cuts which have been faultless) and first experience with L'Oreal Professional products as my previous salon used Matrix. I don't believe that the alternative stylist that had been assigned to me familiarised herself with my client history prior to serving me, and didn't seem to understand what I wanted - I said I wanted a root touch up, she handed me a book of colour swatches and told me to pick the one I thought matched, even though I'm not a professional and have no prior experience with L'Oreal products. I picked one that seemed similar to my hair and she agreed, with no discussion or advice as to how it might turn out, which was much darker than I expected, and with my pale skin tone, my hair colour makes me appear pale, sickly, and washed out. Thankfully it is only a semi-permanent so I am hoping it will fade soon. The cut was different to my previous two cuts - I requested a trim to my blunt shoulder length cut which was done satisfactorily, however previous haircuts at Heading Out have had a more natural blunt finish - this one looks very obviously cut. Finally, the styling afterwards was a disaster. I don't believe a heat protection treatment was used as my hair became awful and static afterwards, to the point that I had to wash it twice (once that afternoon and again the next morning) to get rid of the static charge. Overall this was an awful experience and left me feeling very ripped off. If my regular stylist isn't available next time to fix my hair, I won't be returning.

My poor rating is because I was kept waiting more than 30 minutes without an apology for the delay. I understand the receptionist was sick but an apology doesn't cost anything and respects that you are a client. The person I thought I was booked in wasn't the person who did my hair. There was no explanation for the increase in the cost of the cut and why a surcharge is now being charged. Although I like dogs I don't think it's appropriate to have two of them roaming the salon and jumping up on clients. Hopefully Stella will return to the salon, otherwise I will think twice about returning at this stage.

i booked online about half hour before appt time. Don't think they knew I was coming . They were running late. Then asked if happy with my quote of $65. I had booked a blow wave for medium hair for $59. When i said that i was shown a brochure and staff kept pointing at $65. Just before finishing a another staff member arrived and she was asked about the price. She then said that i had long hair or on the way . I questioned that they thought I had long hair. My hair sits way above my shoulders. when I went to pay she then asked me what the problem was, I said it was all raised by staff. There was no problem by me at the start. I felt like I was really tight with my money as this conversation was heard by other clients. i'm not sure if I would return to this salon.

Despite booking a hair cut and foils only received the foils.. Seemed to be some miscommunication. The salon was busy and appeared disorganised and I did not find it relaxing or enjoyable. After spending over 3 hrs there came away very dissatisfied. Won't be going back. Too expensive for a sub standard experience.

There is no need for the client to be given the invoice/bill at the beginning and then updated as you discuss different options. This is very rude. If you are paying for a principal stylist, you expect them to be styling your hair, not only doing the cut (although I much preferred the senior stylist, i still think this is wrong). There is no warmth in your salon, nor customer service. Normally I like to buy new product and try the saloons recommendations, but I was so put off from the way I was treated and the obvious selling pitch that I did not want to leave any more money with the salon. Very disappointing experience after I have heard such good things about your store.

Response from Heading Out

Firstly may we apologise for the experience you had with us. In regard to our quoting procedure, we direct our stylists to quote during the consultation so as a guest you are aware of the price and not surprised at the end of your experience by the amount due on your account. Quoting prior to commencing a service is a very common procedure in service industries for this reason. At Heading Out we are so passionate about home care because we want to assist you with maintaining and recreating your style at home, which is why your stylist would have taken the time to go over the features and benefits of the products with you. Please do not hesitate to contact info@headingout.com.au so we can discuss this matter further and get everything back on track with your experience at Heading Out.
