To elaborate on my ratings: I had booked in for a medibac facial (I didn't really know what I wanted, I just wanted a good cleanse & to get rid of a couple of white pimples). The lady at the counter asked my concerns & suggested that I have a different facial (the Age Smart Facial)as my skin didn't need the medibac , she also mentioned that the facial she had changed me to may sting a little but it would cleanse my face. One of the first comments Amanda (my therapist on the day) made was using the phrase of 'people of my age' (said like we are from another planet or worst still; a retirement home perhaps) & whilst I understand I am no spring chicken anymore (I'm 46) it wasn’t a great start to my experience; could I suggest that perhaps we could use a comment such as 'more mature skin'? Once in the room I was asked if I have a skin regime, when I explained that I worked 14hr days & that it was almost nonexistent, I was lectured that as a beauty therapist she needs to know that she is not wasting her time & that I will continue to look after my skin after she does the facial. I decided to switch off and try to relax because I not only work 10-14hr days; I do this 6 days a week & was really looking forward to this hour of being pampered. The facial itself was average; the technique was lacking energy and there were a couple of times where nothing was happening which is something I haven’t experienced before, usually the therapist will either explain what is going on or be doing something; never nothing at all. Nearing the end of the facial Amanda massaged one of my arms and then announced that I was finished, I was a little confused as I thought firstly, that both arms would be done (if any at all) & secondly was that I hadn’t felt any of the treatments ‘tingle’ my skin nor make it feel cleansed. Amanda said that I must have very tough skin because her hands were still tingling and that she had done heaps of facials in the past and that they had felt the tingling so my skin must be really tough, she then left the room with the lights still dimmed for me to get dressed so I opened the door for lighting however another lady walking past the room offered to turn on the light. When I went to the counter to pay the lady I spoke with when I first came in asked me how I felt, when I told her that I wasn’t sure if I would have that facial again as my skin felt clogged, heavy and that I was a little confused as only one arm had been massaged and no ‘tingling feeling’ as she explained; she was very quick to brush over my comments & go on to explain about the special on microdermabrasion. This left me feeling a little frustrated with the whole experience. As I am a regular customer of this salon I have put the incident down to a bad day, inexperience and or a ‘one off’ (I am hoping) occurrence however I thought you could use the feedback for training, reference, etc. As a business owner I understand the concept of up selling and I know that I would have been more than happy to purchase a microdermabrasion deal however after no one being interested in my feedback & the experience as a whole, I was not in the mood to purchase anything, this resulted in no up sell and the potential loss of a customer.
